Founders Post - Max
My name is Maxime, but my friends call me Max.
Ever since I was a kid, cycling has been a big part of my life. Growing up outside of the city of Brussels with friends living throughout the different villages and suburbs, meant that our bikes were our means to get together and have fun. Our bike was part of our identity. It was an extension of ourselves. Riding to friends, parties, band practice, school, work, …. It was our way to connect with life.
Although biking has only brought positives to my life (so far), it never was the safest means of transportation. Growing up, I heard several stories of acquaintances being involved in accidents, not to mention the local newspapers reporting every accident when it happened. Personally, I was fortunate enough to never be involved in a serious accident, but I did have my fair share of near misses. The lack of visibility was usually the cause of these accidents, most of which could’ve been avoided by proper lighting or equipment.
Looking back, this reality kind of blemished my romantic or nostalgic memories of biking as a kid. This was my main driver for starting RIDR. To me, RIDR is so much more than a bike accessory brand. It’s our way of giving back and enabling people, young and old, to rediscover their love for biking. Safe biking.
